The type of personal information I collect
I currently collect and process information that identifies you and your business so I can communicate with you and effectively perform the work you have contracted me to perform.
This information includes names and contact details, such as email addresses, telephone numbers and addresses.
How I obtain your personal information and why I hold it
Most of the personal information I process is provided to me directly by you when enquiring about a translation, review or proofreading service. Sometimes I collect personal data through a publicly available source, such as LinkedIn or Proz.
I do not share personal details with any other party, unless I have your prior agreement to do this.
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), I rely on two lawful bases for processing this information. The first base is for the performance of a contract, either a contract that we have agreed or because you have asked me to take certain steps before entering into a contract. For example, I use your personal information to send you a quote. The second base is legitimate interest, for example if I retrieve your details from your company website or an industry site, such as Proz or LinkedIn. This may be in response to a public request for translation, review or proofreading services. In other cases, I may contact you if I believe my linguistic services may be of use to you.
How I store your personal information
I store your information securely. I keep it within my email account, and I also keep some information in my customer file on my laptop computer. I access your information on this laptop computer and on my smartphone. I back up information to an external hard drive. All of these devices are password protected.
I keep personal data for up to 10 years, unless you contact me before that point to request its deletion. After 10 years, I permanently delete your personal information from all of the devices mentioned above.
Your data protection rights
You can contact me at any time to talk about the personal data that I hold about you. You can ask me to send it to you, rectify it or delete it.
If you make a request, I will complete this request without undue delay, and in any event, within one month.

How to complain
If you have any concerns about my use of your personal information, you can report your complaint to me at the details given on my website.
You can also complain to the ICO if you are unhappy with how I have used your data.
